After completion of the treatment, the patient needs time to handle the previous stresses and strains and get used again to everyday life; maybe also to return to his or her job. Inpatient or outpatient medical rehabilitation measures, as well as follow-up rehabilitation in a clinic specialized in follow-up treatment of cancer, are offers that help to recover. Treating physicians and social services in hospital are the first contacts in this regard.
It is important for a patient to have a good relationship with his/her treating physicians. It should also be clarified who will be in charge of the follow-up care during that time and which physician will be in the immediate vicinity in case of an emergency.
